On a trip to the National Media Museum our EYFS children were given the opportunity to explore fascinating objects and stimulating interactive exhibits to help them learn about and engage with media. The children explored film and television animation. Optical toys, 19th century apparatus and hundreds of characters – both on screen and on display – showing the development of the moving image. The children also visited the Magic Factory that teaches science through hands-on learning. Over thirty interactive activities explored light, optics and image-making.
Finally the children experienced how light behaves in different ways; learnt about reflection and refraction; investigated periscopes and a camera obscura; got to grips with prisms, lenses, colour wheels and mirrors and tried to catch a flash of light.
Wow what a day!
