In Little Adventurers last week, we talked about aliens and all things to do with space.
When we came to pre-school last week there was a giant rocket in the middle of the room! We made our own mini rockets too where we had to carefully glue our teddy bears so that they would hold on tight as they flew into space. There was lots of mark making as we used bingo dabbers to colour in our alien pictures and to draw on the rocket.
We gathered around Mrs Davis with the iPad and she showed us a video of the astronaut Tim Peake going into space. We had lots of questions and were really interested in learning more about what was going on. Mrs Davis explained that the rocket was going really, really high into the sky, and that parts of the rocket fell off to make it lighter as it propelled into space. Ben asked ‘What’s that fire?’ Mrs Davis said that the fire gave the rocket lots and lots of energy to make it go super high into the sky. Charlotte asked if it was pretend, but Mrs Watson said it was real!
After we watched the video, Mrs Davis said we could use our own rocket to go up into the sky! We coloured our rocket in to make it look nice before we each had a go at blasting off into space! We looked out the rocket’s window and smiled and waved to our friends as we went up in to space.
For story time, we read ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy, which our last Play Date was based around. Tim Peake’s spacecraft is on display at Bradford Science and Media Museum. You can read about Great Explorers and Reception’s trip to the Science and Media Museum on the News page.
