Together pupils took part in Poppy Week last week to remember those who sacrificed their lives in War.
The classes each took a different approach to learning about Remembrance. Little Adventurers planted Poppy Seeds, used apples and red paint to make pictures and got creative with playdoh poppies.
Great Explorers baked and decorated poppy biscuits and planted seeds to remember people by.
Reception baked poppy seed muffins and made beautiful paintings.
Forms 1 and 2 made window suncatchers to take home and hang in their bedrooms.
Forms 3 and 4 went on a factfinding mission of a local family who fought in the World Wars, one of whom was a pupil at Ghyll Royd! In groups they read up on the Maufe family and put together transcripts, photographs and information about the three brothers’ time during World War I and II. They took a trip into Ilkley to look for Lieutenant Maufe’s name on the cenotaph.
Form 5 researched a previous member of the armed forces-turned-Paralympian.
Form 6 tidied up the War Memorial in Burley by adding fresh flowers before returning with their beautiful Remembrance Poems. You can hear a few of them by watching the video here.
Thank you to everyone who donated to the Poppy Appeal. Rachel from the Royal British Legion will collect the donation bucket this week and let us know our total!
