To celebrate 125 years of providing outstanding education in the Wharfe Valley, Ghyll Royd School and Pre-School organised a summer ball held at the Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley. Supported and attended by past and present parents the ball welcomed in excess of 150 people enjoying a drinks reception, three course dinner, live entertainment and auctions.
The event raised an impressive £18,000, money from which will go towards the development of new outdoor provision for the School and Pre-School. Plans are currently being drawn up and will feature the redevelopment of the courtyard into an outdoor classroom and the creation of a new all weather main school playground and activity area.
The event which was sponsored by, TN Cook, Ashley Bolser Agency, JB M and E, Ilkley Brewery and Mr and Mrs Brocklebank was also supported by 20 local businesses who advertised within the ball programme.
Many parents and local businesses also donated a range of prizes for a silent and live auction including Ilkley Tennis Club, The Box Tree, Cloud Nine and Coniston Hall Hotel.
Head Teacher David Martin said, ‘We were overwhelmed by the support and generosity of both parents and local businesses, which is a real testament to the strong links that Ghyll Royd has with the local community and business networks and we look forward to developing these working partnerships in the future. The ball was a tremendous success, exceeding our expectation in terms of fundraising but equally as important it was a great event, a fun filled evening for all those involved. The ball committee worked tirelessly in a very short timeframe to plan the ball, for which I am enormously grateful. A special mention must go to Mr Brocklebank who chaired the ball committee.
