When choosing a pre-school setting, a child’s health and happiness are always top of any parent’s list. Ghyll Royd provides a warm, loving environment combined with exciting and enriching activities to ignite a passion for learning. Recent developments to our curriculum have provided wider opportunities for children in our Early Years to access an independent education.
Enjoyment and play at the heart of what we do
Helen Hudson, Head of Early Years, said: “We believe in providing a foundation for life by creating opportunity from two. Children in our Pre-School enjoy cookery, forest school, art, music, physical education, gymnastics and more outside the regular pre-school day. We are very fortunate to be able to provide such a rich and diverse curriculum for our youngest pupils, while keeping enjoyment and play at the heart of what we do.”
“Our baseline assessments show that children who join our Reception class from the Pre-School are working above the national average. This is thanks to the breadth of education they had access to, with us, prior to starting full-time education.”
Learning through play
We believes in learning through play in the Early Years to aid key skills and development. Room Leader of Little Adventurers, Julia Davis says: “Learning through play is key for our little ones. We enhance the children’s learning by going off the child’s individual interests from observing their play to encourage developmental milestones.”
Jenny Johnson, Great Explorers’ Room Leader, added: “We believe in child-led learning in the Early Years. We develop children’s understanding through role play, creativity and expression. Our facilities and equipment mean that we can expand on a child’s learning and understanding through lessons with our specialist teachers, trips out on our minibus and through exploring our outdoor classroom.”
Ghyll Royd School
With over seven acres of woodland on site, children can roam, play and discover more about their environment everyday. The weekly welly walks are a highlight for children as they expand their learning outside of the classroom.
Ghyll Royd Pre-School pupils are a big part of the wider school community. The children frequently participate in assemblies, school concerts and whole school activities such as fundraisers. The older children are the best big brothers and sisters. They enjoy the role of playing with and looking after their younger peers.
