Ghyll Royd Primary School have won the Independent Schools Association U11s Northern Football Championships.
It was Ghyll Royd’s first entry into The ISA Championships, which were held at the Trafford Fives Soccer pitches.
Team GR played exceptionally well and their results in the group matches were phenomenal. The group stage results were: 5-0 vs Clarendon (Salford); 8-1 vs Josephs (Burnley); 3-1 vs Forest Park (Sale); 2-0 vs Grange (Chester); 6-0 vs Hipperholme and 4-0 vs Greenbank (Cheadle).
In the quarter finals, the result was Ghyll Royd 4-3 vs Westville House (Ilkley) In the semi-finals, it was an incredible 7-2 vs Huddersfield and Team GR won the Northern Championship by beating Kings School (Chester) 3-2 which resulted in Ghyll Royd reaching the National Finals which take place at England’s training grounds at St George’s Park.
Mr Hadley Nicholson, Deputy Head and Football Coach at Ghyll Royd School said: “The school are so proud to reach the National Finals. The children work so hard during their physical education lessons in all the various sports they do at Ghyll Royd and it certainly has helped them achieve such an incredible set of outstanding results.
“It will be a magical time taking the children to St Georges Park in March and continues the fantastic year following on from our ‘Outstanding’ inspection result.”
